This 5-day non-escorted independent tour will have you travelling by scenic bus, train and ferry making make this holiday truly magical.

Day 1 - Christchurch to Kaikoura
This morning you are picked up from your accommodation, travelling north to Kaikoura for a whale watching tour by boat or light aircraft. See the gentle giants of the sea and be thrilled as the giant sperm whales breach, and watch the dolphins and seals at play. The rest of the day is free.

Day 2 - Kaikoura to Picton and Wellington
This morning, it’s all aboard the Coastal Pacific train to Picton. This is a spectacular train journey that passes through stunning coastal scenery and rugged mountain ranges. From Picton, you board your Cook strait ferry, crossing Cook Strait that separates the South and North Islands, to Wellington.

Day 3 - Wellington to Rotorua
This morning you travel north from Wellington by scenic bus, along the rugged Kapiti Coast coastline, to the farming landscapes of Palmerston North, up through the volcanic plateau of the central North Island, passing Lake Taupo and onto Rotorua.

Day 4 - Rotorua
This morning explore Rotorua's geothermal wonderland and discover the unique culture of New Zealand's Maori people. Enjoy a guided tour of Te Puia thermal reserve, see Rainbow Springs and watch the Agrodome Sheep Show. The rest of the day is at leisure and in the evening you might like to experience a Traditional Maori Hangi Dinner (a traditional barbecue) and concert (at own expense).

Day 5 - Rotorua to Waitomo Caves and Auckland
Today you will depart from Rotorua by scenic bus, passing through the Fitzgerald Glade - a section of highway where native bush forms a canopy overhead, to the magical Waitomo Caves. Here you will have a guided tour of the caves, before taking a short boat ride along the river to the grotto. Be enchanted by the thousands of glow worms emitting tiny lights that twinkle in the darkness. From Waitomo Caves, you travel onto Auckland where your tour concludes.

This
non-escorted independent tour includes - accommodation pick up and drop offs, 4 nights hotel accommodation, sightseeing tours and entrance fees in Waitomo Caves, Rotorua and Kaikoura and scenic coach, ferry and train travel with onboard commentary.

Pre and post travel accommodation is not included. For pre travel accommodation reservations and pick up in Christchurch and post accommodation reservations and drop off in Auckland.

This non-escorted independent tour departs Christchurch 7.00am and concludes in Auckland approximately 3.30pm.

You can add to this tour, the full day scenic bus tour to the beautiful Bay of Islands with the famous Cape Brett/Hole cruise or choose from a range of half and full day sightseeing attractions and/or other non-escorted independent touring travel packages (ranging from 2 to 4 Days) in and from Auckland.
